How we make money

You don't pay us. Shops sometimes do.

Here is the whole arrangement, in plain English, with nothing left out.

The short version

  • ParentPrice is free to use and needs no account.
  • When you click through to a shop from one of our results, that shop can sometimes tell you came from us.
  • If you then buy something, the shop may pay us a small commission — usually a percentage of what you spent.
  • It does not increase the price you pay. You pay exactly the same as if you'd typed the shop's address in yourself.
  • It does not decide which result you see. We show the best price we found, whether or not we earn anything from it.

Why we're spelling this out

A price comparison service that quietly favours the shops paying it is worthless — worse than worthless, because it looks like help. The only reason to use ParentPrice is if you can trust the answer. So the rule is simple and it isn't negotiable: commission never influences which price we show, how we rank results, or which retailers we check.

In practice that means we regularly show you a shop we earn nothing from, because it had the better price. That's the correct outcome and we're not going to interfere with it.

How the commission actually works

Retailers run affiliate programmes, usually through networks that sit between the shop and sites like ours. When you click one of our links, a tag is passed along that lets the shop attribute the sale. If you buy, the shop reports the sale to the network and a commission is credited to us, typically weeks later and often after a returns period. Nothing about that process changes your price or your rights as a customer.

What we don't do

  • We don't take payment to rank a retailer higher.
  • We don't hide a cheaper shop because it doesn't pay us.
  • We don't add fees, mark-ups or charges of any kind.
  • We don't publish sponsored guides dressed up as editorial.
  • We don't invent savings, reviews or usage numbers.

Where you'll see this

This disclosure is linked from the footer of every page. Where a page contains links that can earn us commission, we say so on that page too.
